Bangkok Glass Industry Co., Ltd. And its recycle program
The evolution of the world today and the population increase have resulted in pollution and human wastes which contaminate the environment and adversely affect human’s quality of life
All forms of food and drink packages, make of paper, plastic foam, aluminum and glass, are designed for consumer’s convenience. After being used. These packages are discarded as garbage and have today become a social problem.
We have looked for ways and means to dispose of these garbage. One of which is to recycle them as is being done with glass. Glass is durable. Used glass containers. Melted and remolded. Will still retain all of its original properties. Plastic or foam is rarely recycled as the recycled products form these materials will lose some of their original properties.
For these reasons. Glass has always been widely used in the past. At present and will be in the future. Using cullet in glass manufacturing process helps save energy, conserve our natural resources and alleviate garbage problems. It also reduces trade deficit caused by chemical import. Besides its colorful and attractive appearance, glass is an excellent material for preserving a product’s quality and friendly to both he environment and the consumers. Glass can be re-used in the following ways
|

Recycle Glass products are environment-friendly. They can be recycled or re-used in manufacturing new products for an unlimited number of times while retaining 100% of its original properties. Glass is made from natural materials such as silica sand, limestone, dolomite and soda ash including other imported chemicals. To recycle used glass containers will therefore reduce the use of natural resources and trade deficit resulting from chemical import.
For every 10% of an increased use of cullet in manufacturing new products 2-3% or energy consumption can be saved during the glass melting process. This energy conservation will in turn reduce the level of pollutant emission produced by the melting process. The garbage problem in Thailand can be partially solved if discarded glass packages are sorted out and recycled.

Refill For soft drinks and many other products, used bottles can be cleaned and refilled. This contributes to a reduction in production and packaging cost which will eventually benefit the consumers.
Re-use Many glass containers can be used for other purposes after their original contents have been consumed to maximize such containers usefulness, e.g. coffee bottles can be re-used to store salt or sugar, etc.
Bangkok Glass Industry Co., Ltd. Has always promoted and supported the recycle concept. We will continue to maintain this policy as we believe that “a used glass package is not a garbage” and “we care for and we promote the sensible use of our natural resources”
In our promotion and implementation of this recycle concept in a complete and tangible manner, the Company has initiated “Recycled Glass Campaign” in 1993 by providing receptacles for used glass containers and inviting our program participants to drop used glass containers in the provided receptacles. The Company has also arranges vehicles to pick up the used glass containers from each program participants’ premises and pay a sum or a reward in consideration of the program participants cooperation which is equivalent to purchasing used glass containers directly from users.
During the initial stage of the program, the Company approached schools under the supervision of Pathumthani Education Office. At present, there are more than 200 schools participating in this program in Pathumthani and part of Bangkok. The used glass containers collected so far have exceeded 3,000 tons. This program has contributed to a reduction in the Company’s consumption of natural resources in the manufacturing process and partially alleviated the garbage problems. There are also other participants from the private sector such as various communities, villages, including hotel groups. The Company will continue to promoter and participate in this glass recycle program.
